Grosse Scheidegg – excursion destination and hiking paradise
Grosse Scheidegg offers a unique experience in a breathtaking setting and is a wonderful excursion destination for young and old in Bernese Oberland. On one side, the imposing Eiger in its unique perspective, the face of Wetterhorn and the world-famous glacier village of Grindelwald; on the other, the rugged Engelhörner and the wildly romantic Reichenbach Valley.
Rushing waterfalls, thundering icefalls and the idyllic ringing of cowbells are the acoustic accompaniments to a hike in the Grosse Scheidegg region. They form the backdrop to a magnificent and impressive landscape in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Impressive high mountains, rugged limestone cliffs, jagged glaciers and thundering waterfalls stand in sharp contrast to colourful flower meadows, green forests and lovely countryside. Special attractions include the Grindelwald Alpine bird park, the historic sawmill on Schwarzwaldalp, the wild and romantic Rosenlaui glacier gorge and the Reichenbach falls with the Sherlock Holmes Memorial.
